Protecting high carbon stock / preventing deforestation

In these pages we look at how Olam is helping to prevent deforestation in our supply chains.

One of the most high profile crops with association to deforestation is palm oil, which we cover here in terms of our own plantations and our third party supply.

Under the Olam Livelihood Charter, smallholder farmers are supported to increase yields from the same land so that they do not encroach into surrounding forest.  They are also taught about the long-term impacts of climate change and how preserving the forest, and its biodiversity, can help support their crops through pollination, preventing top soil erosion and creating shade.
