Olam operates Sub-Saharan Africa’s largest and most advanced fish feed manufacturing facility at Ilorin in Kwara State.
Nigeria has had a historic lack of good-quality, floating fish feed. In response, we now supply competitively-priced, specially formulated, full-floating freshwater fish feed to more than 15,000 local farmers in Nigeria, which meets international quality and safety benchmarks. Our two fish feed brands – Blue Crown and Aqualis– are high in nutritional content with amino and protein balance to promote faster growth, and are tailored to the needs of the African catfish and farming practices in Nigeria.
We are also advancing Nigerian fish farming through developing skills and R&D. We offer a two-year internship to 15 fish farming graduates from top Nigerian universities who, along with our qualified aqua technicians, train farmers on best fish practices. We are in the process of establishing an R&D facility in partnership with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore to drive improvements in fingerling quality through better brood-stock management, prevention of in-breeding and improvement in growth potential.
As with our poultry feed, the majority of fish feed raw materials are sourced from around 30,000 local corn, soybean and cassava farmers. Our investment also directly employs 150 workers and will create an additional 200-250 indirect jobs.
