In most of the locations we operate in, sesame seeds are harvested manually and separated from their husks using simple and traditional means. Since seeds produced in such a way could contain impurities, we have set up primary cleaning centres very close to the farm gate.
This investment allows us to assure our buyers that they are guaranteed clean sesame for use in their various applications. For applications that require a hulled or edible grade sesame, we have set up processing plants in the sesame-growing countries. The products from these plants are ready to be added to food preparations without any further treatment. Olam is a pioneer in successfully processing edible-grade sesame and hulled sesame in growing countries in Africa, providing local employment and reducing logistics costs and carbon emissions.
