Olam Cocoa sources from all major origins from a network of 650,000 farmers. As Africa produces in excess of 70% of the world cocoa crop it is at the heart of our cocoa sourcing operations. We are the leading exporter of cocoa beans from the continent and our footprint spans Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon and Republic of Congo (Brazzaville) in West Africa as well as Tanzania and Uganda in East Africa.
In Asia we have an established and consolidated market leading position in our sourcing operations with procurement mainly from Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, while in South America we now have a strong presence in Brazil.
Although Olam is one of the largest originators and suppliers of cocoa beans, we also focus on additional niche areas. We supply fine-flavour cocoa from the Andean region to chocolate connoisseurs of the world and are a large supporter of organic cocoa in East Africa.
Alongside our substantial operational infrastructure, we recognise our clear responsibility to operate sustainably. This is formalised through our award-winning Olam Livelihood Charter and supported by the Olam Farmer Information System (OFIS) which collects and analyses data at the farmgate level for targeted project development and will be enhanced by the Socially and Environmentally Responsible Agricultural Practices (SERAP) programme. As one of the world’s foremost suppliers of sustainable cocoa, we are progressing towards our goal of 100% sustainably sourced cocoa by 2020. Read more about our cocoa sustainability programmes here.
