Working Towards Certification
As part of our commitment to develop in a socially and environmentally sustainable manner, we ensure all our plantations operate according to Gabonese laws. But we want to do more than that. Whenever possibilities exist to obtain a certification for our production operations, we proactively work to achieve these standards.
RSPO: ensuring sustainable palm oil production
Each new palm oil plantation development will adhere to the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) New Planting Procedures. RSPO is a non-profit making organisation that unites stakeholders from the palm oil industry to implement global standards for sustainable palm oil production and use, with certification playing a key role. We endeavour to undertake our first certification audit in 2016, once our trees are yielding.
When international standards do not exist
When standards such as the RSPO do not exist, in the case of rubber for example, Olam is working with relevant stakeholders to create a framework of best practice from other certified supply chains.
