Olam’s presence in Southern Africa began in 2001 with our import and distribution of food grains into South Africa. Subsequently, we began operations in Zambia and Zimbabwe, thereby consolidating our presence in the region.
Today, our Southern Africa Cluster comprises three countries of which, we have a direct presence in South Africa and a trading presence in Zambia and Zimbabwe. The core of our business operations are in cotton farming and processing, the import and distribution of rice and packaged foods as well as extensive wheat and maize trading.
As part of our overall growth strategy, we are planning to consolidate our current businesses over the next few years, and pursue fresh initiatives in packaged foods, oil refining and distribution, snack manufacturing and distribution, and logistics investments. We are also planning to make more investments along the value chain, especially in investment-friendly climates such as those in Zambia, focusing mainly on downstream manufacturing and distribution.
The emergence of such potential markets have created immense opportunities for Olam to expand its business and product range beyond the suite of already successful products on offer.
