Olam’s presence in Southern Africa began in 2001 with our import and distribution of food grains into South Africa. Subsequently, we began operations in Zambia and Zimbabwe, thereby consolidating our presence in the region.
Today, our Southern Africa Cluster comprises 3 countries of which, we have a direct presence in South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The core of our business operations is in cotton farming and processing, the import and distribution of rice and packaged foods as well as extensive grains trading.
As part of our overall growth strategy, we are planning to consolidate our current businesses over the next few years, and pursue fresh initiatives in packaged foods, oil refining and distribution. With the thriving investment climate in Zambia, we focused in upstream with brownfield Arabica coffee plantation in the Northern part of the country. The emergence of such potential markets has created immense opportunities for Olam to expand its business and product range beyond the suite of already successful products on offer.
